Rio Mesa H.S. NFL Update

I thought that we should take a mid-season look at our two Rio Mesa H.S. Spartan alumni that are currently playing in the NFL.

First, the wily old veteran, Scott Fujita.

Scott graduated from Rio Mesa in 1997 and was a walk-on at the University of California where he lettered four years.

He earned both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Cal before being a fifth round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2002.

Scott is #99 for the Cleveland Browns in white

He is now in his 10th campaign in "The League" having played three years with the Kansas City Chiefs, one year with the Dallas Cowboys, four seasons with the New Orleans Saints and the last two years with the Cleveland Browns.

He was a starting linebacker for the Saints when they won the Super Bowl at the end of the 2009 season.

Still playing hard after all of these years!

Scott is listed at 6'-5" and 250 lbs. He is the fourth leading tackler this season for the Browns with 28 total tackles.

Then there is our young alum, Kevin "Quito" Thomas, a corner back for the Indianapolis Colts.

Kevin graduated from Rio Mesa in 2005 with a football scholarship in hand to the University of Southern California.

I like him anyway.

Kevin is #21 here against the
World Champion Green Bay Packers

Kevin was a third round draft pick by the Colts in 2010. He spent all of last season on the Injured Reserve list due to an injury sustained in a mini-camp workout.

Kevin's first start vs. the Saints

Finally healthy and anxious to play at 6'-0" and 192 lbs., he has been in on 16 total tackles in the last two games.

We at Rio Mesa are all very proud of both of these two men as people first and as NFL players second. They represent the best that is instilled in all Spartan football players no matter how big, fast or strong they are!

Reading is FUNdamental

Thank goodness for this fast paced book pulling me out of last week's Greenlandic morass!!!

This week's read was another book that our son Andy gave me to read. Check it out of your local library, lots of good historical information is woven into this action packed novel.

I highly recommend it to you.
