The Wonders of Auchan

Monday started off with a loud ring on our apartment's intercom phone from the postman down by our street side mail boxes. He had an unexpected package for us that was too big for the mail box. He actually climbed the 53 steps to our Malibu penthouse to deliver the goods.

After it's two week journey from Camarillo, we opened it to find three new books to read, two boxes of See's Candies (molasses chips and peanut brittle) and a birthday present from Brighton for Laurie. The sender? None other than beloved friend Koreen FitzGerald.

Thanks Koreen for nipping another one of our Michael and Vanessa pre-wedding diets in the bud yet again!

Fresh off of this self-induced sugar high, we decided that it was time to do a little shopping.

Auchan, Catania's SUPER Supermercato

Most of Catania shops at one of the seemingly thousands of Mom and Pop grocery stores you find on every street corner for day-to-day needs.

From time-to-time, you may go to a supermercato to buy a large amount of items. A supermercato here is like a Ralph's or a Von's back in California.

When you really want to do GIGANTIC, one stop shopping ala Walmart/Costco you pack up your Ford Fiesta and drive across town to the Auchan by the airport. If you can't find what you are looking for here, it probably does not exist in Sicily!

Today we were making one last push for our final two weeks in Sicily so Auchan it was.

I told you that you can find EVERYTHING your heart desires at Auchan!

The XXXL Speedos were indeed tempting at only 3.99 Euros but I remembered that I took vows when we got married.

I arrived at the Juniors practice about 15 minutes early last night. Usually we have to wait until 8:00 p.m. to start because a group of adult men have reserved the mini-field for a game of calcio.

Tonight there was no calcio game going on when I arrived and I was pleased to see that a group of about ten early bird Juniors had started a pick up football game on their own. I thought the play above was pretty creative on their part.

I really believe that for this group, this is what they really need, the trial and error learning that comes by just playing and experiencing the game of American football.

At the end of this play there was not a dry eye on the field. . . touching.
