  | May 20, 2008  Arts, Briefly:  Grisham Football Novel to Become a Movie  By MICHAEL CIEPLY; Compiled by Lawrence Van Gelder  The John Grisham novel “Playing for Pizza” will have its shot at the big screen. Executives at Phoenix Pictures said Monday that they had acquired rights to develop a feature film based on the book, about a washed-up National Football League quarterback who joins a semiprofessional team playing American football in Italy. Mr. Grisham is best known for legal thrillers, several of which became the basis for hit movies, among them “The Pelican Brief” and “The Firm.” Mike Medavoy and Arnie Messer of Phoenix Pictures expect to join the company’s co-president of production, David Thwaites, in producing the film. Among Phoenix’s credits are “Zodiac” and “All the King’s Men.”.
